About

Winner of 2022’s Britain’s Got Talent, London-born stand-up comedian Axel Blake is a rising star. Despite having a subconscious appreciation for comedy as a class clown in school, it wasn’t until Axel attended his first comedy show at Hackney Empire back in 2017 that he decided to embark on the idea of becoming a comedian himself.

Looking back at that moment, Axel reminisces that seeing the comics hold and control the emotions of the audience in their hands left him in awe and reminded him of how a composer controls an orchestra. It was then that he decided comedy was something he wanted to do and he was prepared to do everything it took to build the skills necessary to do it.

Believe it or not Axel’s first step was comedy school, he joined a course that taught him the basics of comedy and after completing the course he began testing out his skills at open-mic nights and small variety shows which featured a mix of comics, musicians, and poets. It was at these small events where he first rubbed shoulders with other budding entertainers such as Mo Gilligan, Paul Chowdhry, and even Ed Sheeran.

Axel was somewhat of a natural and rose relatively quickly within London’s underground comedy scene. While it kept him busy being able to gig most weekends, it wasn’t until Axel began sharing his life and comedy on social media that he started to build a real fanbase. As an early adopter of Snapchat, he built a loyal base of followers who engaged with online sketches, mini-shows such as Dear Dr. Axel, and his overall daily shenanigans.

Having cultivated a fanbase Axel started his own live events. These monthly shows which fused comedy, music and gameshows provided a platform for other entertainers whilst giving Axel an opportunity to hone his skills as a host as well as a stand-up comic. Axel’s hosting and presenting skills were further put to use during his time on the radio, he hosted the radio breakfast show on The Beat London and has presented and featured in shows on Capital Xtra and the BBC Networks. These presenting skills were adapted even more when he began presenting online series for the likes of Crep Protect, UNILAD and SBTV.

Still a growing name in the UK comedy scene, Axel was presented with the opportunities to perform support slots alongside big names such as Eddie Griffin and Dave Chappelle.

“Axel, you killed it tonight”

- Dave Chappelle

Despite building a loyal following allowing him to sell out a self-produced headline show at Indigo at The o2 in 2018, he did not receive mainstream success until auditioning for Britain’s Got Talent in 2022, which saw him receive Simon Cowell’s golden buzzer. His charismatic and captivating comedy won the hearts and laughs of the audience propelling him all the way to the finals and then on the win the coveted competition.

“A comedy superstar was born tonight”

- David Walliams

Since winning BGT, Axel has toured the UK and beyond with countless sold-out dates across his ‘In Style’ tour. Most notably selling out Hammersmith’s Eventim Apollo. He has also featured on ITV’s The Stand Up Sketch Show, The Royal Variety Performance (2022), Don’t Hate The Playaz, and Comedy Central Live.

“We have discovered a star”

- Simon Cowell

A family man at his core, Axel fathers a son and daughter alongside his fiancée and often shares a glimpse into his everyday life through the lens of his animated persona on social media.
At its essence, Axel Blake’s comedy is a truthful and observational style of stand-up built from personal encounters and his years of experience on the scene.

As well as an entertainer to the public, Axel’s stand-up or hosting expertise is also available for private and corporate bookings. He has a wealth of experience from hosting corporate events, awards ceremonies and also offers a stand-up comedy workshop where he teaches the basics of creating a stand-up comedy set. The workshop is great for adding something new to team-building experiences or corporate away days.
